The Obligatory Kim’s Aunt Kitchen Lent Post

Today is a post-Mardi Gras, pre-Easter Friday, and you know what that means? Those of us who observe Lent generally refrain from eating meat on Fridays (and sometimes on Wednesdays, and some sects do the entire Lenten period… But that doesn’t mean deliciousness should stop! Most people seem to lean towards fish on days they don’t eat meat (which explains the return of the filet’o’fish to McDonald’s), and Midtown Lunch seems to have loved Kim’s Aunt’s Kitchen Cart in the past – though no one’s mentioned it since 2012.

The prices are ridiculously cheap, so you might expect a smaller platter reflecting that price.

Nope. My friend ordered the whiting and received two large pieces and a reasonable amount of fries. It filled him up (again, big appetite) and he was happy.

I got the flounder, which was also a lot – I was super stuffed when I finished. I asked for (and received) extra tartar sauce, which made the guys manning the cart laugh, but hey I enjoyed it (and used it all), so it was worth asking. The salad was very standard chunks of tomato and iceberg lettuce, but a nice foil for all the fried goodies in my container, while the fries were fried pretty nicely – not super crisp, but passably tasty.

Even if you don’t observe Lent, Kim’s Aunt Kitchen Cart should go into your lunch rotation – it’s cheap, filling and – most important of all – delicious. I love supporting smaller businesses, too – check it out if you haven’t already!

Kim’s Aunt Kitchen Cart, 46th btw. 5+6th.
