Melt Shop to Defend Their Big Cheesy Crown (And We’ve Got a Pair of Tix to Give Away)
Fancy grilled cheeses is one of the best comfort food trends in my book, and to celebrate the city’s best Openhouse Gallery is holding their Big Cheesy competition again! Last year, our very own Melt Shop (on Lex btw 53rd+54th) took home the grand prize and they’re up for it again against Chelsea Market’s Lucy’s Whey, 2011 champ Milk Truck, UWS’s Say Cheese, Murray’s Cheese Bar, LES’s Sons of Essex, and ‘wichcraft. It all goes down in two weekends, the 23rd and 24th, at 201 Mulberry Street from 12 to 7pm. Tickets are $25 for an hour of eating plus Sixpoint tall boys.

Rye bread, american, cheddar, just a touch of goat cheese in between.
If I’m feeling adventurous, peanut Butter outside, chocolate inside…butter inside, cheese outside.

I like a grilled cheese with bacon and tomato. Its not that crazy but works on a snow day such as today!

Any of the Morris Truck sandwiches are amazing. My favorites have been fontina with brussels sprouts, leek, Jerusalem artichoke & egg; duck sausage; & a beef chili with pickled Serrano peppers.

Goat cheese, munchie cheesie, chopped figs, and a touch of a habenero honey i picked up at a farmers market. Sourdough bread. On the outside, I melt butter and add 2 or 3 drops of balsamic and brush it on the griddle. mmmmmm

Some favorites: Gruyere and caramelized onions; any cheese + sweet pickles, sourdough bread, and don’t forget the tomato soup!
