Chinese-ish Lunch Specials at Jane G’s

Chinese food west of Broad street is usually a bad idea.  Although I was pretty skeptical of Jane G’s, the new lunch combos looked somewhat decent and was a closer walk compared to Chinatown.

I had checked out the  $15 “lunch combo” and it sounded pretty decent. I was going to go with the creme garlic udon shriump and the walnut chicken. However, the lunch menu I was presented with was different; neither of those things were on it. I went with something similar, choosing General Tso’s and seafood udon noodles.  The chicken was crispy and had a decent sauce, probably a few notches above your average take out spot. The udon wasn’t overcooked at least, but it was rather one note.

We also tried garlic sauce with pork, one of the $12 “Szechuan lunch specials.”  It came as strips of pork with what I believe is Chinese celery. Again, here we had a good sauce but it was basic; another element like toasted nuts would have improved the dish.  For about double the price of a standard Chinese take out spot, this was certainly not double the quality. I guess some people need to stay in their comfort zone with clean bathrooms and fancy cushioned seats.

  • Nice, comfortable space

THE – (What somebody who doesn’t like this place would say)

  • Basic Americanized-Chinese food at a higher price
