The Capital Grille’s Spring Plates

This week I was invited back by The Capital Grille to try out their new spring additions to their $18 plates menu.

The 3 course has some spring friendly, lighter options.

Just like my last visit, the service was superb. We were lucky to be seated with Augustin again, who took great care of us and kept my minted lemonade full.

The new asparagus soup is certainly  more warm weather appropriate compared to the clam chowder. The bright green color matches its vegetal flavor. It is cream based, though, so more filling then you might think.

The new entree featured is a hot skillet of shrimp and peppers on top of bomba rice. The shrimp were a little overcooked, but the rice was exceptional. It was like crispy like paella and creamy like risotto. Digging into that rice was my favorite part of the meal.

The new spring roasted vegetables include lightly dressed zucchini, red pepper, mushroom, and squash.

The ever so slightly cooked haricot verts are another healthy way to go. Or you could just stick to the decedent truffled fries, which are still on the menu.

Dessert is not included in the 3 course plates menu. But the large, fruit studded vanilla flecked creme brulee ($9) was good enough that I managed to polish most of it off despite my already full belly.
