PROFILE: Philly Luncher “Christina”

As is customary at Philly Lunch, every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Christina who is looking for new UCity places to add to her lunch list.

Name: Christina

Age: 30s

Occupation: Membership Manager

Where in Philly do you Work?: International House Philadelphia 3701 Chestnut Street www.ihousephilly.org

Favorite Kind of Food: Anything seafood, Asian, or combination of the two. I used to live in Chinatown–I was broke and fat.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: I’m allergic to carrots and they’re randomly in everything. I love all non-itchy food though.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: Han Wool – hotpot. Asian seafood tofu stew goodness.

Midatlantic – smokehouse dog with saurkraut. HOME MADE KRAUT I will miss this place

Sunny Point (18th and South)- seitan cheese steak. I wish I worked closer but it’s good I don’t because their vegetarian stuff is the best I’ve ever had, as an omnivore. It’s such an unassuming little
place.

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? I know, I know, “University City food truck cliche” but Don Memos at 38th and Sansom. We’ve stood outside that glorious silver vehicle once a week. My fave is burrito al pastor. Nommmmmmm.

As far as sit down lunches we like to keep the walk short: Han Wool (36th and Chestnut), Sang Kee (36th and Chestnut), Midatlantic (37th and Market). We order from Ed’s (35th and Lancaster) all the time. Their pizza is great–best North of Snyder Avenue!

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? South East Asia so I can eat asian seafood deliciousness all day

Is there anything you’d like to ask the Philly Lunch readers? Working in University City, we’re spoilt for really interesting and quick lunch choices, I’ve not made it through a fraction! What should my prioritized hitlist be?

How about checking out some trucks since you are looking for speed, ex: Chewy’s,  Pitruco, and Delicias, and for something really different, how about Senegalese food at Kilimandjaro,

If you would like to be next week’s Profiled Philly Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate), email me at jamie@midtownlunch.com.

  • The Pho on 42nd and Spruce is excellent. Also, get over to Koch’s on 42nd and Locust for either a hot pastrami sandwich or the Restaurant School Special. I’d recommend venturing out west to any of the Ethiopian joints too.
