King Kebob’s Kebobs and Kebob Me Raffle
Over the last few weeks, I’ve realized that the King Kabob truck has returned to 38th & Spruce. The cart has apparently been open for a few years, but was on hiatus last semester because of a change in ownership. Now that King Kabob is back, I decided to give it a try with a few friends.
The cart offers steak kabobs ($5), chicken kabobs ($4), veggie kabobs ($3), and fruit kabobs for dessert ($3). All kabobs can be served in a pita (50¢) or with rice ($1). We planned to order one kabob from each category, but were very disappointed that they were not serving veggie kabobs or fruit kabobs! Instead, we settled on two chicken kabobs and one steak kabob. While we waited, we had plenty of time to chat with the cook because it took almost 20 minutes for our lunch to be ready! I appreciate that the kabobs were not sitting out precooked, but I normally expect food carts to be a little speedier. While you’re waiting, you might as well ask the cook to show you his tattoo of the Philly skyline, recently updated with the Comcast Center.
First, we enjoyed the Classic King Chicken Kabob in a pita. The kabob included chicken, peppers, and onions in King Kabob’s special sauce and was really moist and flavorful. Of the three kabobs, we enjoyed this one the most.
The pita helped to make it a bit more filling and was a great complement to the meat. For $4.50, this was a tasty lunch, but I was definitely left wanting more to eat. I would enjoy more grilled vegetables on the sandwich, but adding rice could be a good option as well. Our side of rice was a little dry, but had a great taste.
Our second chicken selection was the Fajita Chicken Kabob, which included the same meat and vegetables as the Classic Chicken, but was seasoned with Mexican spices. I really wasn’t able to taste the Mexican flavor, but the Kabob was delicious nonetheless.
Until this point, we thought that Kabob King could do no wrong. Unfortunately, the Classic King Steak Kabob did not live up to the other two dishes. While some chunks of steak were delicious, others were barely edible. With the absence of veggie and fruit kabobs, this inconsistency limited the menu even further to just chicken for me.
THE + (What somebody who likes this place would say)
- Freshly made kabobs
- Great chicken options
- Friendly server
THE – (What somebody who doesn’t like this place would say)
- Long wait time
- Not everything on the menu is offered
- Beef was inconsistent and sometimes inedible

May I direct you there? I couldn’t agree more with this write up. I would seriously saw off an arm for a more consistent truck that sold meat on a stick.
