Carnitas El Momo Now Trucking on Thursdays and Fridays

Back in April I had my first taste of Carnitas el Momo at Taco Madness. The carnitas specialist had been raved about by L.A. Magazine and L.A. Taco for their copper pot fried pig parts, which, until recently, could only be found at two weekend parking spots.  One in South Park on 61st and Avalon, and one on Melrose and Vermont in Hollywood.  But after a strong showing at Taco Madness they decided to expand to weekdays, and are now spending Thursdays and Fridays in East L.A. (on Pomeroy just off of Soto) where the 10 and the 5 meet.

If you’re looking for the dried up, crackling topped carnitas you’ll find at most places in L.A. this might not be for you.  These are tender and moist, and if you order the mixed or sortido (which you most definitely should do) what you end up with is a mound of various parts, including melt in your mouth skin that is like nothing you’ve ever had before in a taco.  Each taco is $2, but they are massive as street tacos go.

The best part about the new location?  It shouldn’t be tough to re-reroute our 2 hour L.A. taco crawl to include this as a stop.  Looks like an updated version of that crawl will be coming soon…
