Mariscos Jalisco and Guisados Both Launch 2nd Locations

Back in May I posted a taco crawl for out of towners and locals alike; a perfect way to enjoy 5 of the best tacos L.A. has to offer, all in 2 hours. The journey starts in Los Feliz with a Baja style fish taco, and ends in Boyle Heights with a fried shrimp taco from Jalisco.  In the middle?  The best guisados, vampiro, and carnitas L.A. has to offer.  It wasn’t so much a recommendation as a glimpse into my demented eating habits.  The way I like to eat my tacos… because after eating at one, I find it hard not to crawl on to the next- each taco so cheap, and so close to the one that precedes it on the list.  The crawl is still the best way to enjoy these tacos, but two of the places have now opened 2nd locations- neither of which are too far from the original (much to the disappointment of westsiders.)

Guisados, the Boyle Heights counter that specializes in hand made tortillas topped with stewed meats, opened its second location the Wednesday after New Year’s on Sunset Blvd in Echo Park. A stones throw away from Mexicali, it will make it that much harder to not double up on these two places, turning every visit into a mini crawl.  Even though the new chalkboard looks a bit more sparse than the one at the original location on Cesar Chavez, the menus and prices are identical.  Which means…

… you can still get the taco sampler for $7!  The first 7 items on the menu, in mini taco form.  It doesn’t get much better than this.

The other expansion is Mariscos Jalisco, the tacos dorado truck at the end of our crawl (on East Olympic).  Apparently they’ve always had a 2nd truck availables, but have waited until now to park it  permanently on 10th Street and Stanford in Downtown LA.  Once again, they’re not straying too far from the original but it’s great news for anybody who lives or works in DTLA and found the truck on Olympic to be a tad bit too far.  Fans will also be glad to know that just like Guisados, the 2nd truck is identical to the 1st in every way, except for the 25 cents extra tacked on to the price of each taco.  The best taco in L.A. for only $2?  It’s hard to complain.  Now I just need to find some great tacos nearby for a mini crawl.
