PROFILE: L.A. Lunch’er “Lindsay”

As is customary on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we profile a random reader to get their recommendations for the best spots to lunch near their work. This week it’s Lindsay, a bartender who doesn’t like Chinese food (what!?!?) but loves La Cevicheria (minor redemption!)

Name: Lindsay

Age: 27

Occupation: Bartender, Writer

Where in L.A. do you Work?: Pour Vous in Hollywood; thenader.com; Los Angeles Magazine “Hey Barkeep” column

Favorite Kind of Food: Veggies and Fish

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Chinese

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch: Pho Cafe (aka hipster pho) in Silverlake. I always order the no.14, which is a vegetarian pho. I douse it heavily with fish sauce and sriracha.

The “goto” lunch place you and your co-workers eat at too often? Often lunch for bartenders is more of a late night snack/breakfast. However when I am not bartending I am usually running around town, which doesn’t leave much time for a full meal. My favorite “goto” is Beverly Hills Juice, which is a raw juice joint on Beverly and Orlando. I love the Banana Mana shake, which is a combination of your choice of juice (my fave is Tangelo Coconut) with 2 scoops of frozen ground almonds and bananas blended together. It’s heavenly! Plus it gives me an energy boost right around the time that “two o’clock feeling” sets in (5 hour energy is bad for you don’t drink it!)

The farthest place you’ll drive for lunch on a normal day? If I am in the mood for seafood I don’t mind driving down to La Cevicheria on Pico, which is a hole in the wall mom and pop restaurant that serves THE BEST Ceviche I have ever had outside of Mexico. It’s in the barrio and looks like you may walk in and never come out, but don’t be scared, they are some of the sweetest people serving up delectable and authentic food.

Dream job location (anywhere in the world), purely for lunch purposes, and why? I’d love to work at a Mezcaleria in Mexico City so I’d be able to eat at all the Taquerias! I’d probably come back about 100 lbs heavier, but it would be worth it.
