PROFILE: L.A. Lunch’er “Jason”

As is customary on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we profile a random reader to get their recommendations for the best spots to lunch near their work. This week it’s Jason, a writer who loves Chicago sandwiches.

Name: Jason

Age: 29

Occupation: Writer of things

Where in L.A. do you Work?: Bon Appetit Magazine, Sunset Magazine, FoodRepublic.com. I do all my work from the comforts of my MiniHouse in Culver City.

Favorite Kind of Food: Italian/Southern (including Cajun/Creole)/Steakhouse

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Indian

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch: Mezza (9901 Washington Blvd) for their gyros and fattoush salad. Sushi lunch special at K-Zo (9240 Culver Blvd).

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Gaby’s Express for the $6.99 1/2 chicken meal.

Place you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? Not a discovery, but you reaffirmed my undying love of the white pie at Vito’s.

The farthest place you’ll drive for lunch on a normal day? Buena Park, CA. I hit up Portillo’s (8390 La Palma Ave) about once a month. It satisfies the Ditka-sized whole in my ex-pat Chicagoan heart.

Dream job location (anywhere in the world), purely for lunch purposes, and why? Evanston, IL. Known to Northwestern University students as “home” and to residents as “The Dining Capital of the North Shore,” Evanston has more lunch options than you can imagine. Amazing buffalo wings and waffle fries at Buffalo Joe’s, great sandwiches at Potbelly, and the best all-around lunch in the Midwest at The Lucky Platter. Evanston has something for everyone.

Anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? What can I do to make myself taller? Just an extra four inches is all I’m asking for.
