PROFILE: L.A. Lunch’er “Kara”

As is customary on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a random reader to get their recommendations for the best spots to lunch near their work. This week it’s Kara, a carb fiend who is looking for a spicy lunch in Hollywood…

Name: Kara

Age: 30

Occupation: Assignment Desk

Where in L.A. do you Work?: KTLA, Hollywood, CA

Favorite Kind of Food: I love anything with carbs, spicy food, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Peruvian, Thai, El Salvadorean, Vegan & Vegetarian, German, Greek, Cuban & Moroccan food!

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Tasteless food, Chipotle & In-and-Out

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch: Tender Greens (6290 Sunset Blvd) – Seared Ahi tuna dinner plate-They also have amazing mashed potatoes, desserts & fresh drinks. Oaks Gourmet (1915 North Bronson Avenue) – Grilled Cheese Night is to die for here, plus they sell s’muffins! Palms Thai (5900 Hollywood Blvd.) – Pad See Yew & Raw blue crab is incredibly fresh! California Vegan (7300 W.Sunset Blvd. #A) Crispy Chicken dinner has a great chicken-like texture.

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Tender Greens, because they have such a great variety and the specials change daily.

The farthest place you’ll drive for lunch on a normal day? 7 miles to Azuma (16123 S Western Ave, Gardena). 4.2 miles to The Green Temple (1700 South Catalina Avenue, Redondo Beach). 21 miles to C&K Imports Papa Cristos-(2771 West Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles) – But only on weekends!

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? India or Indonesia because the food is delicious, plentiful and inexpensive!

Is there anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers in L.A.? Can you suggest any great SPICY restaurants with great sauces? (Other than King Taco, Taco Boy etc..)

Well, there’s no spicier lunch in Hollywood than at Jitlada in Thai Town. And boat noodles pack a mean punch as well (plus satisfy your carbs craving.) For Mexican sauces, though, I’m not sure. Got a recommendation for Kara? Put it in the comments. And if you’d like to be next week’s Profiled: L.A. Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d want to nominate), email me- zach@midtownlunch.com.

Have you tried Loteria Grill on Hollywood Blvd (tourist central, i know!)? Im not a huge fiend for spicy but I like them for their tacos (chicarron is a winner) and their chilaquiles are tasty!

Also, Taqueria La Pinata on Santa Monica and Highland!
