Lunch Downer For Soho: Rheon Cafe Shutters Due To “Adverse Economic Environment”

 width= I don’t get up to Soho too often for lunch, so I was surprised to see a sign on the popular Rheon Cafe on Spring St. (nr. Thompson) late last week saying it was closing due to the economy. I know several profiled lunch’ers had recommended the vaguely Japanese bakery and cafe before I went up there and had a duck sandwich that was pretty good. Looks like those frequent lunch’ers weren’t enough to pay the Soho rent. Click through to see the closure notice taped in the window.

Weighing In on Rheon Cafe’s Roast Duck Sandwich

At least two people have recommended I head up to Soho’s Rheon Cafe on Spring St. (nr. Thompson) for the roast duck sandwich. One fellow lunch’er offered no explanation what was so amazing about this sandwich that I would take a train to get it, other than saying it was “really good.”  It was featured on Serious Eats last year, and last week, profiled lunch’er Rachel recommended the sandwich.
