Fatty ‘Cue Kiosk In Battery Park Opens Today: This week must have set a record in number of good lunch spots opening in the farthest reaches of Lower Manhattan. The Times brought word a couple of days ago that the former Picnick kiosk in Battery Park that's being taken over by the Fatty 'Cue crew is opening today at noon serving hot dogs, hamburgers and sandwiches. The other former Picnick kiosk nearby will soon be open selling soft serve.

At Lunch Now: Shake Shack Is Swamped

This was the line at the new Shake Shack in Battery Park City at about 1:30. Yes, I waited about 45 minutes before I got any food but they had a good system going and best of all, had someone handing out custard samples to those in line. I’m guessing the lines will die down eventually but for now you’re going to have to block out some time to eat here,…or send an intern. Stay tuned for a full review tomorrow!

Roll And Go Opens, Selling $1 Slices

About a month ago, signage went up on a location of Roll And Go on Broadway (at Franklin) advertising $1 slices and an odd assortment of other food options. Well, according to lunch’er Geaufrite in the forums it looks like it’s finally open and we can all get our grubby hands on cheap-ass pizza. Since that’s kind of a lunch dead zone it’s probably best that this opened instead of yet another Subway.

Red Mango Spreads Fro-Yo Craze To Fulton St.

This Red Mango on Fulton St. (nr. William) may have been open for a couple of days now but I just noticed it earlier in the week. It looked like they were doing some training and not actually dishing out frozen yogurt yesterday but hopefully they will be today. So now you can get some falafel from Crisp and wash it down with some raspberry cheesecake frozen yogurt while admiring the view of the gigantic hole in the street out front.

Soon, People May Actually Be Jealous Of Our Downtown Lunches

Exquisite jewelry giving way to Thai.

After a long, cold winter of only a few new lunch spots opening downtown with food under the $10 mark there’s now a slate of new places opening in the next couple of months. The list is getting longer every day, with an announcement that the FiDi is getting a cheap Thai option when Rhong Tiam opens on Water St. (nr. Coenties Slip) on May 30. We’re also getting a location of Luke’s Lobsters on William (nr. Broad) and the Potbelly Sandwich Shop on Maiden Lane (btw. Gold & Pearl) that looks like it could open any day now. But wait, there’s more! Read more »
