You Won’t Regret Trying The 99% Vegetarian Cart’s Veggie Burger

Sometimes you only have $6 in your pocket and you don’t want a traditional street meat lunch or pizza. What’s a Lunch’er to do? When I’m in this predicament, I sometimes head to the 99% Vegetarian Food cart that’s been relocated, along with three others, to the corner of Liberty St. & Nassau after a CitiBike rack was installed in their longtime spot around the corner off of Broadway.

This time, I finally tried the veggie burger, and I’m so glad that I did.

You get to choose four items if you get the platter, and although I was disappointed that they didn’t have my favorite – mashed yams – I soldiered on. Into my container went a veggie burger fresh off the griddle, brown rice, vegetables and tofu scramble. I restrained myself from getting the vegetarian chili again, although I endorse it.

The winners of my platter were the veggie burger and the tofu scramble. First, the veggie burger which was deliciously crisp and brown on the outside, and resembled creamy risotto on the inside. There didn’t seem to actually be any vegetables involved, but damn was this tasty. I would imagine this would make a satisfying and cheap sandwich if you’re not super hungry.

The tofu scramble had the most flavor of anything on my plate, involving sauteeing tofu with spices and onions. You might need to add a little salt, but it’s solid. I would love to eat this for breakfast.

The vegetables the day I went consisted of carrots, broccoli and cabbage and the brown rice was brown rice. Hey, sometimes you have to eat things that are actually good for you.

Has this truck moved? I went by Liberty and Nassau earlier this week and last week and couldn’t find it! Hope it comes back.
