The $5 Burritos At Tribeca Taco Truck & Cart Are A Steal

The food truck situation in the Financial District has been in flux since many parking spots have been taken up by emergency vehicles and generators. That means many regulars, like the Tribeca Taco Truck which has regularly been rat Water & John, have been forced to find new locations in the neighborhood, or just park in Midtown for the time being. They returned on Tuesday after an absence and I happened to walk by as I was figuring out what to eat for lunch. I’ve already tried their tacos and a chorizo burrito when the truck used to park in Soho (they now have a cart on Broadway btw. Prince & Spring). It turns out they’ve upped the price on some of their burritos, but the $5 options are a great deal.

The menu’s changed a bit since the last time I ate at the truck, nixing the platters and upping the price on many of the burritos by $2. When I saw that there were four or five burrito filling options for $5 I almost didn’t believe it, but then shifted my lunch order into the dirt cheap range.

Most of the cheaper options – chipotle tofu, chicken, ground beef, cactus – aren’t super exciting, but you’re saving $3 over the more expensive versions featuring various preparations of pork, carne asada and chorizo. I went for the grilled chicken burrito which includes black beans, yellow rice, tomato, lettuce, cheese and a choice of two sauces from their list. I chose spicy mango pineapple salsa and picante roja.

There wasn’t a ton of meat in here, but what was there was chopped up dark meat that was well flavored and not at all dry. I also liked the straight-up yellow rice that didn’t try to be fancy. I could have used a bit more lettuce and tomato in my burrito but that’s probably nitpicky.

So now we’ve confirmed that the tacos and burritos are both good at Tribeca Taco truck, but I’m going to have to say the $5 burritos are the best value as you’re probably going to spend $6-$9 to get full on tacos here.
