PROFILE: Downtown Lunch’er “Cathy”

As is customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, we have Cathy who is a recent transplant to the Financial District and has an unpopular opinion on street meat.

Name: Cathy

Occupation: Account executive

Where you work: Wall St. and William St.

Age: 30

Favorite kinds of food: Sushi, bistro fare, salads

Least favorite foods: Halal carts.  Can’t get past the smell.

Favorite lunches downtown: I go to Pita Press on Cedar (btw. William & Pearl) and my favorite thing to get is one of their salads with the warm pita on the side. You can also get a side of tzatziki for 50 cents to dip your pita in.  It is one of my favorite lunches.  That is my go-to lunch spot not only due to its proximity but the tasty fresh ingredients. I also like Hot Clay Oven – the Indian take out place that is setup like Chipotle.  That is pretty tasty.  On the higher end, Crepes du Nord is great.  The buckwheat crepes are made to order and the fillings are very healthy and yummy.  I like a lighter lunch so both of these places fit the bill for me.

The “go-to” lunch place you and your co-workers eat at too often: I love everything at Pita Press and have had everything on the menu.  I also love Ashby’s as a great stand by for standard lunch.  And of course Hale and Hearty on a cold day.

Places downtown you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch: Downtown? I can keep up with the food trucks – like Milk Truck which is usually parked right outside my office.

Dream job location, purely for lunch purposes, and why: I miss my old office location near the Flatiron because of the lunch options there.  Chipotle was just around the corner along with Markt for a more upscale lunch.  And of course, Trader Joe’s for a quick to-go salad was great!

Anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch: Downtown readers? Where do people down here eat when the weather warms up?

It’s pretty popular to get something  from a truck and eat at the tables by Stone St. or Hanover Sq. Now that the barricades are down at Zuccotti Park, that’s a great spot to eat lunch. Where do you all head for lunch once the weather gets warm? And as always, if you would like to be next week’s Profiled Lunch’er (or know someone you’d like to nominate), email us at downtown@midtownlunch.com.

You can eat lunch anywhere in the world and you pick a spot because of its proximity to Trader Joe’s and Chipotle? *groan*

Branch out a bit. Try some street meat. You might find out you like it!
