Earn The Envy Of Your Friends: Compete For The Mr./Miss Wafel Title

In honor of National Wafel Day tomorrow, the Wafels & Dinges truck is gearing up for the annual festivities and crowning of Mr. and Miss Wafel and they want you to be a part of the celebration taking place at Hanover Square. There be free (you guessed it) wafels in exchange for artistic expression, and you can sign up to take part in the contest to crown the winners. You have to do so by 4 p.m. today and full details can be found on their blog. Click through for more information on how to get free food at the event and see what the prize is if you win.

Men and women compete separately starting at 1 p.m. and the winners are crowned at 2 p.m. Hopefully they won’t be hassled as they were in midtown last year, but Thomas from Wafels & Dinges said they went the extra mile this year to get proper permits to try to avoid said hassling by buildings and/or police.

So how do you get free food tomorrow? You adults can write a poem about spekuloos, or the kids (of all ages up to 103!) can do a drawing of the truck or waffles. There are some standards though, per Thomas: “I would say the quality of the drawing and/or poem needs to represent the quality of the wafel you’re expecting to get. If our wafel is worth only a scribble to you, then you will likely insult the wafel-gods.”

Got it? Good. Oh, and the winner of the coveted crowns gets a Belgian Wafel Passport good for a year’s worth of free wafels.
