Downtown Links (The “Royal Wedding-Free” Edition)

Can I get mine without the twig? Courtesy of Eater NY.

SoHo Is All About The Sweets (Including Free Coolhaus!): There are a lot of good things on the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker today, including a freebie. Cupcake Stop is on Broadway in SoHo, as is a Wafels & Dinges cart. And don't forget you can get a free Coolhaus ice cream sandwich starting at noon at Lafayette  Crosby & Grand! Sweetery is on Hudson along with Eddie's Pizza and Bian Dang is on King. Rickshaw is on both Hudson, and Wall St. in the FiDi. Rounding things out is La Cense on Wall which has a special promotion with Tenka.com right now.

Banh Mi Cart Starting Breakfast Service Monday

At first when I saw this in the forums I got excited that someone was finally going to start serving breakfast banh mi. (Seriously: Pate, pork sausage patties, some pickled veggies, maybe some egg – somebody needs to make this happen!). But a walk past the No. 1 Banh Mi cart on Hanover Sq. (at Pearl) revealed a sign that said starting Monday they will be dumplings, sweet buns and coffee and tea in the morning. If anyone tries this out let us all know how it is!

Designer Hot Dogs (And A Crazy Good-Looking Sandwich) At Asiadog

Hot dogs are one food that I normally don’t crave come lunchtime since about the only offerings near where I work are the dirty water variety sold primarily to tourists. When I saw that Brooklyn Flea favorite Asiadog had opened a brick and mortar shop on Kenmare St. (btw. Mott & Mulberry) serving hot dogs, corn dogs and a few sandwiches and sides I knew that was I ever in the area I would be going there. Why? Because they have hot dogs topped with banh mi fixin’s, pork belly and potato chips, that’s why. Read more »

Slooow Day On The Twitter Tracker: It's not that the nasty weather has scared anyone away, it's just that the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker is a little barren. Kimchi Taco Truck is on Hudson in SoHo along with Sweetery. Calexico is out today, but only the cart on Prince & Wooster.

A Web Browser Brings Us Free Ice Cream Sandwiches Friday

I’m still confused about what Mozilla Firefox has to do with Coolhaus ice cream sandwiches, but whatever, free food on Friday! They’ll be at Grand & Lafayette Crosby from noon to 4 p.m. serving “flavors” like the Beta and Foxy Brown. The truck will be out and about this weekend and then is parking at Madison Square Park on Monday. Consider this your free preview before the L.A. phenomenon finally puts its two trucks on the road here in NYC.

Roll And Go’s $1 Slices Coming To Lunch Wasteland

If you work near City Hall or the other government buildings nearby I feel sort of bad for you (only sort of because you have Chinatown nearby), but soon you’ll have another cheap lunch option. A post in the forums alerted me to a 99 cent pizza place going in on Broadway near Canal. A walk up there revealed Roll And Go opening at Broadway & Franklin selling $1 pizza slices among an odd assortment of other foods (falafel, tortillas and bagels!). As far as I know it’s the first $1 slice place below Canal other than Papa John’s.
