Get Started On Thanksgiving Early At Toasties

If you are one of the poor souls working today (or Friday) and are missing out on Thanksgiving, there is at least one option in the Financial District that incorporates all of the flavors of the holiday. That would be Toasties on John St. (btw. Broadway & Nassau) that has a Thanksgiving sandwich permanently on its menu. I’d been meaning to go here anyway after walking by a million times, and also on the recommendation of profiled lunch’er Paul. Find out if they pull off the tricky turkey/stuffing/cranberry combo after the jump.

What I was not expecting of Toasties was how crowded it was at 1 p.m. By the time I ordered my sandwich the place was packed and more people kept coming in. Most people seemed to be regulars, but I only heard one other person order a Thanksgiving sandwich. They also have a turkey plate with two sides, if you’d rather have it less like eating leftovers.

My sandwich was $7 on toasted white bread (or a roll) and more if you want it on a hero. At first I thought this was a pretty tiny lunch, but stuffing and bread do a pretty good job of filling you up, especially when doused with gravy. The turkey was the hot out of a steam tray kind, there was a squirt of cranberry sauce and then a layer of some damn good stuffing with just the right amount of gravy. This thing was delicious.

My Thanksgiving sandwich really got me in the mood to stuff my face tomorrow. If only I could have made it up to Bubby’s for some free pie.
