The Foolish Waffles truck is only a few months old. More of a savory gal, I was really intrigued by the meat topped waffle options. I tracked the truck for a few weeks, finally finding a convenient location for me to check them out.

Hai Street Kitchen opened at the end of May and has been busy every since. Philly seems to be responding well to oversized, sushi rolls made to order with traditional and non traditional ingredients. I waited a bit for my chance to try them, the line out the door the first week was too much for a quick lunch break. When I went, the line was contained to the inside and moved fast. Pick a protein, sauce, and vegetables or choose from 6 preset signature rolls. Set up like other build your own style places, you make your way down the counter as your ingredients are added to your roll.
Taproom on 19th is a South Philly corner bar that got revamped last fall with crafts beers and an enticing menu by Chef Jen Choplin. These features, plus the outdoor seating, happy hour, and weekly specials, should be enough to get you down to Ritner.
[Note: The Insider has reported that Chef Choplin was replaced by Elijah Milligan last week. There will be some menu changes in the next month, so if the following plates entice you, get down there asap because they could disappear]
Tasso sandwich at Plenty
Carina’s Tea and Waffles is a new cafe located in UPenn’s International House, though you can access it through a separate outdoor entrance up a set of stairs to the left of the International House. As the name suggests, you will find many iterations of tea and Belgian style waffles inside.
Du Jour is a cafe located in the “Commerce Square” on Market Street. The menu looks like a lot of basic sandwiches and salads all hovering over the $10 mark. But take out tacos, normally $11 are $6.99 on Tuesdays.
