Midtown Lunch

Sansom Kebob House has been on my list of places to dine for a while now. The sun was unforgiving and I needed somewhere to sit down and escape. Too hot for outdoor seating, there was no reason not to head down to Sansom Street’s subterranean Afghani restaurant. Maybe Afghani food is not the first thing that comes to mind to refresh you on a hot day, but my yogurt topped appetizer was just the right start.

Hope you all had an amazing and relaxing Memorial Day Weekend! There are some awesome food deals going on this week that you should all check out.

Groupon is offering $20 worth of Makiman sushi for $10. This doesn’t include lunch specials, but I am a fan of their sushi fusion stuff on the general menu.

Groupon is also doing $40 worth of food from Nina’s Trattoria for $20. While I haven’t been there yet, the menu sounds good and includes several under $10 lunches or you could splurge for the pricier fancy ravioli with the help of this 1/2 off deal.

And for dessert, Eversave is giving  $10 worth of ice cream for $5. How can you say no to that?

I had a plan to go to Sampan for lunch with my ladies, but then I realized they stop serving lunch! What a shame, I wanted to get my hands on those banh mi’s. I quickly thought up Chifa as a good alternative. Jose Garces’ Chifa combines Peruvian and Chinese cuisines, and lucky for us they have a lunch menu with some affordable  options. The Express lunch allows you to pick 2 courses for $14, but you can pick just one course instead and fall under the $10 but still be full. A list of smaller dim sum plates are also on the lunch menu.

Yesterday, Profiled Luncher Erin mentioned her love for the curry fries at Maru Global so I had to give them a try. Japanese curry is way different than Indian curry, its more aromatic and sweet, less cuminy. And Maru serves it over fries ($6)  as well as over burritos and rice.
