Kitchen Sink Bún at Vietnam Palace

It is a fairly often occurrence that I realize I need a fast and moderately healthy lunch. Vietnamese food can usually get that job done.  On 11th St, Vietnam Palace and Vietnam Restaurant across from each other, leaving you with a serious decision (snd I would love to know which you prefer). However, this lunch time decision was made up for me, only Vietnam Palace was open.  The menu is pretty affordable and the small lunch menu is a list of things from the regular menu, only cheaper. I was going to go with the grilled pork over vermicelli for $6 but was told that taking it to go during lunch resulted in  a surcharge. When I asked how much that surcharge would be I was told it might be about a dollar. That seemed annoyingly random and I thought “screw that.” Instead, for $9, I got the fully loaded bún. I think my math makes sense.

Taste of Philly 2011 Reminds Me of Some Places I Need To Lunch At

I liked that restaurants from all over the city were featured. I was reminded of some places that I really need to get over and try. Here is a run down of what I ate, including pictures from the restaurants that are due for a visit immediately.

Bowls of Bacon and Unauthentically Great Cheesesteaks at Milkboy

My lunch at Fuel on Monday left me in desperate need of some calories. Pretty much any one of the menu items at Milkboy, the 3 month old coffee shop/bar/ music venue/restaurant, has as many calories as the entire menu at Fuel.  I deserved it.

Taste of Philly This Wednesday, We have a Winner!

Thanks for answering the question in our ticket give away contest for the Taste of Philly event at the Crystal Tea Room this Wednesday evening.  I am impressed at how gross you can all be. A winner has been picked at random and has already been notified. So if you didn’t get an email from me, buy your ticket here. It is a seriously good time, and the ticket price is really reasonable (think of how much dinner and a 3 hours of drinking costs), you should not miss out! And if you see me, say hi and let me know if there is any food in my teeth.

I’d Rather Be Low on Fuel

Fuel is a restaurant with 2 locations in Philly and a  slogan that should have been my first warning sign; “everything under 500 calories.” The big glass doors show tables that are full, so I thought, maybe they are making the most out of those 500 calories. I tried to keep an open mind, but by the end of the meal, I was missing my extra calories.
