Foolish Waffles’ Take on a Banh Mi

The Foolish Waffles truck is only a few months old. More of a savory gal, I was really intrigued by the meat topped waffle options. I tracked the truck for a few weeks, finally finding a convenient location for me to check them out.

Grilled Cheese and Beyond from Cheese E. Wagon

Today Luncher John is checking out another food truck for us

Parked on the south side of Market Street between 33rd and 34th Street in front of Drexel’s law school is Cheese E. Wagon, a new food truck that opened last Fall. The name may evoke a truck simply focusing on grilled cheese or mac and cheese. Sure, grilled cheese is on the menu, but Cheese E. Wagon features plenty of cheesy goodness throughout its offerings.

Philly’s Mobile Indian Food from the Samosa Deb Truck

In the Summer of 2012, I noticed a woman selling Indian food outside of a corner store. Turns out Deb and her husband owned the corner store and were attempting to get more attention to the Indian food she had been making and selling inside. Since then, “Samosa Deb” had enough good feedback (I vouched for her!) to invest in a truck. She now sells her homemade Indian food around town, usually outside their Dasani Market on 9th and Catherine, on Temple’s Campus, and more recently over at the Drexel food truck mecca at 33rd and Arch. Farm Truck Showcases Local Farms, Food Producers, and Artists

Today Luncher John gives us the run down of another local food truck

The growth in the food truck scene is positive not just for those operating trucks but also for local food producers. Most of these food trucks source their ingredients from local farms and bakeries, which keeps the food fresh and costs down. Farm Truck follows the same philosophy in showcasing the high quality food produced by area farms and bakeries, along with local art that is often hung up on the truck itself. More permanently, it is decorated in an array of colors and with several farm animals. Farm Truck has been making stops at The Porch at 30th Street, City Hall Courtyard and the Navy Yard.

Mucho Bueno Serves Much Goodness

Luncher John keeps on trucking, this time at Mucho Bueno.

One of the new trucks making the rounds at LOVE Park and City Hall Courtyard this summer is Mucho Bueno. Ever since Honest Tom’s set up a permanent brick and mortar shop, Center City has been devoid of mobile taco trucks. Mucho Bueno helps fill that niche quite nice with its creative Mexican fare.

Mama’s Meatballs, No longer an Amateur

Last fall I judged the 3rd Swedish Historical Museum  Meatball Contest. There was a tie for the amateur 1st place  winner between a 77 year old man and Michael Antinore, who confessed to me that day that he was interested in opening a food truck and the win had given him more confidence in that dream. Fast forward to July and Mama’s Balls is a regular at City Hall and LOVE Park. If Michael wants to compete in the competition again, he will have to enter in the professional category.
