Little Baby’s Ice Cream Knows How to Combine Sriracha and Earl Grey

The list of flavor combos was the first thing that made me dying to test out Little Baby’s Ice Cream (Balsamic Banana, Grilled Peach and Mint, EARL GREY SRIRACHA, Vegan Coconut Tea). The second was their means of ice cream dispensing- a tricycle. And then there is the name and the logo, too freakin cute. So far, Little Baby’s  serves their handmade ice cream at various city wide events and delivers small shipments to  Green Aisle grocer, so their elusiveness further adds to the appeal. I tracked them down like a hungry lion.

Starbucks Woos me with Happy Hour and Cute Desserts

While I am so not in the habit of promoting big franchises, especially over priced ones, Starbucks has given me 2 reasons to stop by this week. 1) Half Price Frappuccino’s (from  3-5pm until the 15th) and 2) tiny little cute desserts. They have intelligently catered to my cheapness and love for tiny, cute things. You win this round, Starbucks. Check out the little cuties after the jump.

Back to Marabella for Chicken & Veggie Meatballs, with an Alcoholic Bread Pudding Ball for Dessert

I heard that Marabella was serving Turkey meatballs this week, a special not on the regular menu. I had enjoyed the cheese covered beef and pork meatballs there, and I am curious to see how the turkey meatballs were since I have had much experienced with them being often dried out. Alas when I got there, they were out. But I was still hungry. I had never tried the chicken or veggie meatballs, and I had recently read good things about them. I also found out on this trip that you can do combo sandwiches, why did I not think of that before. I ordered the traditional with 2 chicken and 2 veggie balls ($8.50).

Some Actual Sugar, From A Dessert Truck

While I may have gotten some sugah from my diner experience this week, I was craving some actual dessert. I had been meaning to try the Sugar Philly truck for many many months. Finally I made my way over to University City to check out their treats. The first lesson I learned was that college students love their macarons. So much so that many flavors were sold out by the time I arrived in the late afternoon. The chef even mentioned he might be moving towards a more macaron centered menu.

Cream Puffs at Small Oven Bakery

Over the summer Small Oven Bakery opened up in the back of Tutti Frutti, differentiating this spot from other froyo spots by selling cream puffs. I needed something sweet and it had been a while since I had a Beards Papa Cream Puff (and there are none in Philly). Small Oven bakes everything on premises, the main attractions being the standard “choux creme puffs” and the fancier “choux cakes.” When I arrived I found out they were all out of the fancy choux cake AND out of chocolate cream filling… I wiped my tears away and tried the other choux creme puffs.
