Croissants and Banh Mi from Artisan Boulanger Patissier
That trip to Montreal really had me craving French pastries. I knew it was finally time to get down to Artisan Boulanger Patissier. ABP moved from South Philly to the E Passyunk area in 2013, bringing their French pastries and adding a small menu of savory sandwiches. Reading up on ABP had been very promising- people rave about the croissants and they are often sold out by the afternoon.
So that I wasn’t eating a lunch of pastries, I ordered a pork belly banh mi. As one would expect, the baguette it came on was amazing. I had to rip some fat off from the big strips of pork belly, but otherwise, I was happy with this sandwich.
I was quite pleased when I found out the croissant I had been hoping for was still available- the chocolate almond. This handheld dessert is a dream. This is easily one of the best croissants of my life, which is saying a lot as my mom instilled her love of croissants on me at a young age. The pastry is unbelievably flaky and buttery. I would love to be able to compare it to the almond croissant I brought back from Montreal, but my mom ate it. We are no longer on speaking terms. Just kidding! Love ya mom (just a little less).
Where are your favorite croissants- in Philly and beyond?
