PB and J + Bacon Dog at Underdogs

Underdogs has been going strong on 17th Street for a few years now. Back in 2012, Luncher John loved the beef chili covered “Michigan” dog. I have a deep love for hot dogs, but try not to eat them too often. Things have been hectic at work, and I decided a comforting hot dog was something I deserved.  To make it more comforting, why not pair it with toppings from a classic elementary school sandwich and everyone’s favorite breakfast side dish.

The PB and J dog comes topped with peanut butter, strawberry preserves, and potato stix.  I got a funny look when I asked for the hot dog to be also wrapped in bacon, but come on- it’s already a ridiculous concept for a hot dog, what harm can bacon do? I was very pleased with my creation- the double dose of salty meats, crunch potato stix, rich peanut butter, and sweet preserves actually works.  There was also something to experiencing a combination of familiar flavors that are not always paired together, and the additional satisfaction knowing some people might consider that pairing gross.

If pb, j, b,ps is not for you, there are plenty of other Underdogs combos. But, would you try it?

  • Now, now Jamie… we all know this is not the first time your buns got double-porked … although maybe it was the first time peanut butter was involved
