Dreaming of Shakshuka at Cafe Ole

This week, Luncher Janeane from Phillyism is in Old City eating an Israeli favorite of mine- shakshuka.

Café Ole, an Israeli café sandwiched between Old City boutiques, is somewhat of a Mediterranean Oasis for lunching locals – with an otherworldly vibe and unique lunch eats. It’s the perfect place to grab a coffee, grab lunch, or just hang out with an iced tea, with tables inside and out and doors swung open as if they’re waiting for your arrival. If the café isn’t busy, it’s really the perfect place to relax in Old City. On beautiful days during the coffee rush and lunch, it can get jam packed, so expect slower service and to have to make your way through a ravenous lunch crowd.

(UPDATE: The LevelUp partnership worked out so well that this deal is being extended today and Friday, enjoy!)

Nom Nom Ramen to the Rescue

I was truly giving up hope. Every time I had ramen in the city I was totally let down. When Nom Nom Ramen had its soft opening in March, I didn’t run over as soon as possible like I did with Ramen Boy. I was scared of being disappointed yet again. After getting sufficient reports from trusted friends that it was not crap ramen, I made my visit. I hoped to find love in a hopeless place.

The menu is all ramen, save for a single pork bun appetizer. Inside there are plenty of tables but no waiter service, which I have no problem with; order at the counter and wait for your name to be called.

$15 Lunch for 2 at Nina’s Trattoria

Today’s Groupon sounds pretty good (it better be, I just bought it): Lunch for 2 for $15, including either a cheese plate or meatball appetizer to share plus 2 entrees at Nina’s Trattoria in the Italian Market.

Has anyone had lunch here?

Giant (Edible) Train Wreck Today

To kick off Dedication Week at Reading Terminal, a celebration of the newly renovated terminal space, Beck’s Cajun is making a 6 food Cajun “train wreck” sandwich. That means 6 feet of cheesesteak, andouille sausage, salami, and Creole Mayo. Head over at 12:30 today to get a bite of this creation.

  • I already gave the Shack Stack and Concretes from Shake Shack my approval, Philly Phoodie
  • and Row Home Eats both liked the Smoke Shack and fries.
  • Shake Shack isn’t the only place in town with fried mushroom burgers though they may do it best, Two Eat Philly tried one at HipCityVeg and the sauce was missing  [Two Eat Philly]
  • Father’s Day is this Sunday, hopefully you have something nice planned that doesn’t involved lots of crowds. Want to know what I got my dad this year? BBQ Tongs with an LED light and thermometer. Pretty cool, no?
