PROFILE: Philly Luncher “Steven”

As is customary at Philly Lunch, every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Steven, a carnivore and bbq enthusiast.

Name: Steven

Age: 58

Occupation: Professional Trainer

Where in Philly do you Work?: I work by contract most recently in the Market East and Old City areas.

Favorite Kind of Food: I’m definitely a carnivore and my favorite quote is- “If we aren’t supposed to eat animals, then why are they made out of meat?”

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Lima beans, liver or OMG a lima bean liver casserole!

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: I like to vary my lunches by both nationality and sophistication. Wedge & Fig in Olde City for their amazing paninis. The “Jawn” is to die for. I love Chinatown’s Nan Zhou Hand Drawn Noodle House for their beef brisket soup with hand-drawn noodles. If I want to splurge I go to Davio’s. Let’s not forget Distrito in University City. They have an extremely creative lunch menu.

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Race Street Café in Old City. Their Spanish Burger is a combination of ground beef and chorizo sausage and a carnivore’s delight.

Place you discovered thanks to Philly Lunch (if any) Famous 4th St Deli

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? Austin, Texas. They have dozens and dozens of eclectic restaurants and of course amazing barbeque.

Is there anything you’d like to ask the Philly Lunch readers? If you could have lunch at the home of anyone in the world, who would you pick?

That is a fun question, I had a childhood crush on Morimoto (pre ponytail) so lunching with him could be fulfilling a dream.

If you would like to be next week’s Profiled Philly Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate), email me at jamie@midtownlunch.com.

  • Stephen, since you love barbecue and work in Old City, you should definitely check out Khyber Pass Pub. They’ve got a smattering of amazing barbecue platters and I’m partial to the house-smoked brisket (– and they were just named as Philadelphia’s #1 Bar on Foobooz)!

  • P.S. Jamie, pre-ponytail Morimoto, eh? I never knew that about you!
