Milk Truck Brings Us Grilled Cheese, Other Dairy Products

There’s yet another grilled cheese truck roaming the streets, called the Milk Truck, and it joins Gorilla Cheese and the Morris Grilled Cheese Truck in putting dairy products between slices of bread with other fancy ingredients. This truck also offers milkshakes and soup which sets it apart from some of the competition. They’re parking at Wall & William on Tuesdays and Fridays, although you might want to check out the daily Twitter Tracker posts or the truck’s Twitter just to be safe. A peek at the menu is after the jump. Read more »

PROFILE: Downtown Lunch’er “Jeremy”

As is customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, we have Jeremy who genuinely loves eating in the Financial District (no, really).

Name: Jeremy Wiland

Occupation: Corporate gift sales

Where you work: Wall St. between William and Pearl

Age: 36

Favorite kinds of food: I used to only eat hamburgers, pizza and chicken until I moved to New York City. I tried Thai food and fell in love and now I will eat anything. There isn’t a kind of food that I will not eat including Thai, Indian, Afghani, sushi, Italian, bar food, Mexican, seafood, French and tapas.

Least favorite foods: Ethiopian…I had a very bad experience at an Ethiopian place and will never try it again.

Seaport Holiday Market Boasts Crepes, German Sausages

If you’ve been at the South Street Seaport and made it past the giant Christmas tree and throngs of confused-looking tourists, you may have noticed and/or smelled the food stands. I was unaware that these existed, and at first they seemed pretty boring with one selling crepes and another various kinds of drinks including hot chocolate. Then you will see a big round stand with a round grill and buns hanging in the middle, and realize that you can get a delicious sausage while gazing at the Christmas tree.

Halal Gyro Express Adds Afghani Food, Including Real Lamb

Do you like gamey meat from a cart that does not come from a factory-formed loaf of gyro? If you’re like me, the answer to that question is yes. There are a few places in the Financial District that serve actual chunks of goat or lamb, but Halal Gyro Express is the first cart I’m aware of that sells it in the form of Afghani food. The cart got a face lift a while back after toiling away on William St. (btw. Maiden Lane & John) for many years as an Xpress Power Lunch selling the usual trinity of chicken, lamb gyro and seriously good  falafel. In fact, just after I tried their street meat combo (which they still sell) was when they revamped the cart, put new pictures on the side, and added four new Afghani specialties to the menu including lamb and chicken tikka, lamb chops and chicken kofta. Check out a little lamb tikka over rice action after the jump.
