National Coffee Day Means Freebies on Monday

Pick a day of the year and it’s some sort of National [enter food/beverage] Day. But on National Coffee Day Sept. 29, there will be free and discounted caffeine, and we thought you may like to know where to get a cup. Financier locations around the city will be giving out free small cups of their new dark roast with any purchase, and Grand Central has several options. Irving Farm on the dining concourse has a cup of iced coffee involving maple for $2 from 7-9 a.m. and $4 after; Cafe Grumpy in the Lexington Passage is doing a tasting of two coffees from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Zaro’s Bakery in the Shuttle Passage has free upgrades on coffee sizes all day (medium for price of a small, etc.).

Free Cheese + Art At Grand Central Starting Today: An edible art gallery—made of cheese—can be found on the west side of Grand Central's Vanderbilt Hall this Thursday and Friday. The pop-up gallery is sponsored by cheese maker Castello, and the best part of the whole thing is you can take samples straight from the "art." If you think it's weird to eat cheese/art, they'll also be handing out samples of aged havarti, and you can watch a couple of artists carve a sculpture out of cheese. This is happening from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday so if you're a true freeloader you can get samples for all three meals.

Free Lobster Roll Alert: Bon Appetit is teaming up with the Red Hook Lobster Pound Truck to give out free lobster rolls today all over the city. No catch. Just show up, and get a free lobster roll.  They're starting off Downtown on Broadway btw. Dey + Fulton at Noon but then they'll be in Midtown the rest of the day. 7th btw. 36+37th at 1:30pm, 42nd btw Lex+3rd at 2:30pm, and then 42nd btw. B'way + 6th at 3:30pm.  Freeloaders, prepare to engage.

Free Pastries at Crumbs Friday: If you're feeling hungry on your way to work tomorrow, stop by one of the eight Crumbs locations in midtown from 7 to 10 a.m. for a free pastry from their new breakfast menu. Those sweets include Berliners, T-Birkes, braids, and an update on croissants, Danish pastries, cinnamon rolls and bear claws. And locations: B'way btw. 37+38th, Lex btw. 43+44th, Park btw. 32+33rd, 42nd & 8th Ave., B'way & 53rd, 42nd btw. 5+6th, and 3rd&53rd. Freeloaders should also note that it's one per person.

Free Chocolate Tasting Today and Friday at La Maison du Chocolat: If you're needing something sweet after lunch or on the way home from work today, stop by the Rockefeller Center location of that fancy chocolatier La Maison du Chocolat. Until 6pm, they're hosting a complimentary ganache tasting. And if you miss it today, you can stop by on Friday night between 7pm and 10pm. Free chocolate can definitely help fix these winter blues.

Free Tea & Biscuits Alert: Apparently a Downton Abbey truck (oh joy!) is spending the week in New York handing out free tea and biscuits, and for the next 3 days they'll be parked in Midtown.  Today they're on 6th Ave. btw. 40+41st until 7pm, tomorrow they're on 50th btw. 6+7th from 11am to 7pm, and Thursday they'll be on 41st btw. 7+8th from Noon to 8pm.

It’s Free Lunch Day at Fresh & Co.

Thanks to Lunch’er “marshm” for sending over this tip… “Fresh & Co at 1359 Broadway @ 36th Street was handing out flyers that said everything in the store would be free today from 11am – 2pm while supplies last.”  Freeloaders, prepare to engage.  UPDATE: A commenter pointed out that on their Facebook page it says you need an original flier in order to score the free grub, but it didn’t say that on our flier.  Maybe if you tell them a co-worker told you about it, they’ll hook you up anyway.  Good luck everybody!

FREE COFFEE at Blue Dog’s New Midtown West Location!

Blue Dog Kitchen, known for its extensive sandwich menu, has opened a new location on 50th Street between 8th and 9th. In celebration of the grand opening, they’re giving out FREE COFFEE all day and ALL WEEK LONG through Friday, August 30th!

Freeloaders engage! No excuses for being sleepy this week.

Blue Dog Kitchen, 308 West 50th Street (btw. 8th and 9th Ave)

Free People’s Pop Alert: The Rockettes kicking off the lead up to their Christmas Spectacular isn't something we'd normally care about (enjoy yourself tourists!) but this year to celebrate they're giving away free ice pops from People's Pops at locations all over the city.   It starts today at 11:30am in front of Radio City and travels to Bryant Park and other locations.  See the entire schedule here.

Free Ice Cream at La Maison du Chocolat: There will be a complimentary in-store ice cream tasting at fancy chocolatier La Maison du Chocolat (both at Rockefeller Center and the Plaza Food Hall) every day this week through Thursday. From 12pm - 6pm, they will be offering their classic chocolate ice cream and their strawberry sorbet. The 2 ounce petite scoops probably won't fully quench your ice cream craving, but free is free.
