I-Green Frozen Yogurt and Kitchen

This weekend a brand new spot opened in Chinatown with, as the name suggests,  an odd combination of edibles: vegan sushi, vegan American food (i.e. cheesesteaks), vegan Chinese food (i.e. soy general tso’s), Bubble tea, and Frozen yogurt. Frozen Yogurt is 49 cents per ounce. I sampled the mango frozen yogurt  and it had a refreshing mango flavor.

Products I Love (2nd Edition)

These salted fried gram puffs are an amazing snack. They are little crunchy balls made from chick pea flour. They taste like the Corn Puffs cereal, but the chick pea version. The bag says they have “zero cholesterol” but they are a little greasy. I hope they aren’t too bad for me because I eat them in handfuls. I picked these up from International Food and Spices in University City.

My Cheap Date

I hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend. I know I did, thanks to this guy…

Can you top that?

And on another note, Cheap Date Philadelphia reports on fun and cheap local dates, sometimes with tips from fellow bloggers. Recently, she let me take her for a lunch time date in Chinatown and wrote all about it here. Check out dating, Midtown Lunch style!

The New Falafels on the Block: Zaffron vs Falafel Bar

Luncher Mary just sent me a thorough run down of her experiences at the recently opened Falafel Bar at 1513 Chestnut and  Zaffron Mediterranean Grill and Hummus Bar in the Liberty Place food court.

“Both are reasonably priced and will make up your order as a wrap, salad or platter.  FB will also make up your sandwich in a pita or baguette, and also offers some other panini sandwiches.  FB is almost entirely vegetarian, except that they offer tuna in a panini or salad.  Zaffron, on the other hand, offers chicken, steak and shawarma (gyro) options as well as falafel and grilled vegetables.  They also, as their name implies, offer hummus that you can jazz up with any of a number of toppings such as feta cheese, Kalamata olives and/or roasted peppers.”

    Center City Lunch News

Meal Ticket has reported two big lunching stories, first the Jewish deli formally known at the Kibitz Room is now Schlesinger’s. Though there is a new menu, you will still find staples such as corned beef and pastrami and most importantly, the pickle bar is still there. [Meal Ticket]

Also, Famous Dave’s has opened on 17th and Chestnut with a lunch friendly menu  in the ML price range including rotating bag lunches and sandwiches like the $9 Texas Manhandler, a monster of brisket and sausage.  [Meal Ticket]

Lastly, Luncher Christine and Foobooz points out that Jet Wine bar has started an express lunch with soup, salads, and sandwiches for $10.

    Openings in Washington Square West

Looks like the new Five Guys on Walnut and 11th is readying itself for its December 22nd opening.

But not so much with Blue Bear, on 11th between Walnut and Locust in the spot formerly occupied by Doc Watson’s. There is not too much going on inside…
