A Gluten Free Taste of South America at Sazon

My last quest for a gluten free lunch was a decent success with Georgio’s pasta, but I was hoping for something completely different. That’s when I happened upon Sazon, a Venezuelan restaurant a little north and west of Center City run by a husband and wife team, Sazon, specializes in arepas, which are made with corn and are therefore perfect for the gluten phobic. When ordering, make sure to  let the waiter know of your dietary restrictions and whatever you order will be prepared on separate cooking surfaces.

ML Does Gluten-Free: Pasta at Giorgio on Pine

I never thought much of Georgio on Pine when I passed by, it just looked generic, but after reading a glowing review from South Philly Review, I looked at the menu. I noticed they did in fact offer  lunch as well as a gluten friendly menu. I knew I had to bring my recently diagnosed gluten intolerant friend. I liked that I could still get my gluten filled lunch, while she could finally get some decent pasta.

The Buffet at Mumbai Bistro

Fast, fresh, homestyle Indian food is the motto of Mumbai Bistro. Here, the main feature is the by- the- pound Indian buffet where everything goes for $4.95 a pound. During my lunch trip there was a steady stream of customers, but I was able to get my food and pay very quickly. A few tables are available in the small space.  The serving trays are reheatable, just be cautious when you carry your tray so your selections don’t mush into one Indian food blob.
