Fries With That Szechuan?
Traditional Szechuan opened a few months ago on the corner of 9th and Arch this year. I like to try out all the new restaurants that pop up in Chinatown, especially the spicy ones, so the $6 lunch special was just an extra incentive.
To wake up my taste buds I started with a classic, dumplings in chili oil. The dumplings were tightly packaged, but I prefer a softer skin.
Next, I ordered the pork and leek special with fried rice, hot and sour soup, and an egg roll. Standard mediocre Chinatown lunch accompaniments. Imagine my surprise when a small, and pretty lame salad and a handful of crinkle cut fries were also on my plate. I can’t say I have ever eaten french fries at a Chinese restaurants. There is a first for everything.
The lunch sized portion of pork and leek, by the way, was actually good- flavorful and not overly fatty.
