Center City’s Newest Walgreens features Froyo and Chandeliers

Last week, a new Walgreens opened on Broad and Chestnut, replacing a Borders. This is not normally the type of news that would be exciting to me, but someone wise informed this is a different type of Walgreens and dragged me over. And like usual, he was right. This is not just a place to by your Q-tips. It is a shop with 3 floors, a beautiful ceiling, chandeliers, a Redbox, a department store worthy makeup section, and food.

I definitely bought some makeup on my lunch break. Shhh!

So far, in terms of the edibles, there are countless fridges dedicated to cold drinks, shelves upon shelves of chips and snacks. For something more substantial, I noticed a few sandwiches and salads but nothing tempting. Supposedly, there will be sushi served here. What did look good was the frozen yogurt on the 2nd floor. You pay by size here ($5 for a large), not by the ounce, so stack your cup. We tried a twist of the cupcake and tart flavor topped with Butterfingers and Oreos. I was shocked at how much I liked this. It tasted like red velvet cake and didn’t have any of the gross low calorie sweetener flavor.

You can whine about another drugstore opening up in Center City all you want. I normally would concur.  But this one is clean and architecturally pleasing, the staff was extremely nice, and the promise of even more food along with the fab froyo makes it a-OK in my book.
