EfFISHient Food Court Seafood Platters from Under the C at the Comcast Center

Since I judge how awesome or crappy a job is based on the food options within its vicinity,  the Comcast Center is not a bad place to work. I dropped by the food court in the basement of the Comcast Center for my first time ever and decided to take a risk and order food court seafood, because yolo or I was just in the mood for seafood. Under the C seafood sells raw fish and crustaceans, a good sign that their prepared meals might actually be fresh.

Not surprisingly, prepared seafood dishes are available, served by the pound. A little more surprising is the selection of Thai and Korean food, ex: Pad Thai and Korean Short ribs. Most surprising, was that I skipped the Asian food in favor of some plain old seafood. Under the C (omg I just got this, C as in under thesea AND as in under the Comcast Center), offers seafood platters w 2 sides for $9.99. That is what I went with.

Order at one counter, pay and receive food by the lobster tank. Thats how it works here.

For the fish entree, I picked beer battered cod. For the sides, spinach and mac & cheese. The two, large pieces of cod were flaky and fresh tasting. I would have been happy to eat this at pub or restaurant;  the fact that it came in a plastic box from a food court is impressive. As for the two sides, my spinach was fine, something healthy-ish to balance out the friedness, but the mac and cheese was not gooey and cheesy enough.   Especially knowing that amazing mac and cheese is right nearby. But given how much I really enjoyed the fish, I codn’t complain…

THE + (What somebody who likes this place would say)

  • Fresh, fried fish

THE – (What somebody who doesn’t like this place would say)

  • Boring mac and cheese

Will be making one of my semi-monthly appearances in Center City for a few hours during the day tomorrow. 21st & Arch. So many lunch options, too bad I can only choose one!

I was thinking the falafel cart guy (Christo’s?) at 20th & Market, as I’ve never experienced the… magic… there before. But then again, I haven’t been to Mama’s in a while, and I can make it there for an early lunch, well before they close. A sabich featured prominently in one of my dreams a few days ago, so that may be a sign or something. And then there’s that little place I keep wanting to try, on Arch between 21st and 22nd, Aya’s Cafe. And then there’s the ramen places, and there’s Nan Zhou, and there’s the LOS truck at Love Park, and there’s every other thing between Chestnut and Race I never get to eat at and and and…

    Argh!

I think I should cut out the places which I can hit weekends or evenings, and narrow it down to either Mama’s or Christo’s.

Ha! Just on a hunch, I had to look it up. I should have known it would have been reviewed here already… ;)

I’m considering their take-out lunch special. Fridays it’s the kefta sandwich, for $6 I think…
