The plain white (Leonard Bookman) is my favorite slice at Pizza Brain, but I’ve only had one chance to try it. It’s never on the day’s slice rotation whenever I happen to stop in. The pepperoni (Forbes Waggensense) always seems to be on. I like it better than their plain (Jane) slice, but only marginally so as their red sauce in any form is just a bit too sweet for my taste.

That white mushroom pie (Queenie) is the one I’ve been wanting to try forever now, but it’s never been on as a slice in the eight to ten times I’ve been there. I suppose sooner or later I’ll just have to order a whole pie to finally try it, then. I’ve had a slice of the white w/ caramelized onion, gruyere and thyme (Felix Huppert) and it was very good.

And while we’re up here on Frankford Ave.

I’ve been to Bottle Bar East a few times for take-out beer (imo, a slightly better selection of good stuff than The Foodery; and also clearly marked prices FTW!) now, but haven’t tried the food yet. They have some good-looking sandwiches and stuff.

Not sure if they do lunch, but they are open at noon every day. Regardless, I’ve gotta try them for dinner one day soon.

Hmm, and now that I think of it I just realized Pizza Brain’s a BYO, too. This could get dangerous!

And I just had to hop the 5 bus down to both places, since I got myself thinking about them and all. Just picked up a couple beers at Bottle Bar East, and confirmed they do not do lunch. Food is only from 4 PM – midnight. Still looks like good dinner fare, though!

Pizza Brain had, of course, the plain (Jane) and the pepperoni (Forbes) on as slices. I’m beginning to believe those two are always on the daily slice rotation (which makes sense, but is still kinda boring, oh well). The third was the Charlie Mayfer, the white and sweet potato slice. Which I do like, and tonight was no different. Hopefully one day I’ll get to try their plain white again…

  • Ah too bad they aren’t open for lunch!
