The Olive Oil Gelato Mission
A while back at dinner in Mario Batali’s Otto in NYC I was most captivated by the dessert- olive oil gelato studded with sea salt. It was transcendental. The sweetness was so subtle and it tasted like the highest quality olive oil. So, I was on a mission to find it in Philly. After a series of tweets, Starr Restaurant let me know that Stella offered olive oil gelato on its rotating homemade gelato menu.
Mission accomplished! The gelato came drizzled with more olive oil and topped with biscotti. While I missed the extra texture and saltiness that Otto’s sea salt sprinkle added, my craving was satisfied. One scoop is $4.

I haven’t seen it at the ones in CC!
Capogiro also has olive oil gelato! I saw it at the Scoop shop on Passyunk over the weekend.
