Weiners with the Works on a Grumpy Day From A.P.J. Texas Weiner Restaurant

Sometimes, when it is just one of those no good, very bad days, you want a lunch that fits the occasion. A.P.J. Texas Weiner Restaurant, around but not inside Reading Terminal, is a small diner serving the basics to all who enter. The fact that you don’t have to worry about anyone trying to talk to you combined with the greasy atmosphere makes it the right place to eat when you need to sit down and have a little grumpy alone time. And Hot Dog expert Hawk approves of their weiner, so I had faith it would hit the spot.

The famous texas weiner with the works is under $4 and comes with chili, onions, as well as bacon and cheese if you like. The hot dog is split in half which gets it extra charred on the griddle. The bacon was crispy, which is really the only place they could have gone wrong here. This is no culinary revelation, but there is something satisfying about this fully loaded hot dog. It was what I needed in the right setting for where I needed to be.

I’ve been going here for years, probably since before some of you readers were born ;-) Not too often, every couple of months, but when they see me come in they know my order – “2 ‘works’ to go” (that’s the dog with chili, mustard and onion, not what you have pictured). Before they changed hands a number of years back, they had killer homemade soup as well.
