Products I Love

No profile volunteers today, boo! Instead, I am writing about a few food products I have gotten recently that I absolutely love.

Urban honey! I was so happy to finally get my hands on this. Mine comes from the roof of  SHARE, a non profit food distribution program in North Philly (I recommend volunteering there, it is very rewarding).  The honey is light with floral notes, and is good for allergies at the same time.

After the jump: spiciness

Another local product is Jinja, a zingy ginger elixir that is nice with seltzer and better in a gin cocktail. Like the honey, it is all natural and has health benefits.

This last one is far from local. I have had a lot of Pocky flavors, but this box I purchased at the Vietnamese grocery store by Pho Ha is my favorite of all time. It is a cinnamon and black pepper Spicy Pocky. You taste chocolate and cinnamon at first and then a peppery bite at the end. The box suggests pairing with wine or beer, as least that is what I think it says. Or… How about a jinja-urban honey cocktail with spicy Pocky on the side!

Have you bought anything recently that you absolutely love?

Sambal (kind of hot pepper relish) from Green Aisle. I put it on everything.

  • Headhouse Market is rife with delicious local fare! A few recent obsessions are Venison Rillettes from Talulah’s Table, Duck Prosciutto from PorcSalt (porcsalt.com/category/products), and Applemint Honey from Busy Bee Farms.

And totally agree on the treasure trove that is the Asian Market!
