Seafood Sorrows at Snocky’s Oyster House

I didn’t want to listen to the bad things I heard about Snocky’s. I had once tried their oysters at a tasting event, and thought they were exquisitely fresh, so how bad could their food be? Snocky’s Oyster house has been around for almost 100 years, serving seafood sandwiches and platters in a diner-like environment. You want to like it there, but the kitchen makes that to be a challenge.

A cup of soup comes with your lunch order. I have had better clam chowder. The broth was watery and did not taste like it came from a place that specializes in seafood.

The crab salad sandwich was a gloppy, mayo-ball of unfreshness. Not good at all and not even close to being worth $9.

You best bet is to play it safe, with dishes that don’t require much preparation. I was perfectly happy with my bowl of class mussels. Our waitress may have been a bit hard of hearing, but she was very sweet and recommended the white sauce preparation. The broth tasted like what I would whip up at home- white wine, onion, parsley, garlic- except with a lot more butter.

Stick with the mussels, have a beer, and stay away from the “salads” if you are dining here. Can anyone attest to the quality of their fried foods?

THE + (What somebody who likes this place would say)

  • Divey, diner feel is fun sometimes
  • Good bowl of mussels

THE – (What somebody who doesn’t like this place would say)

  • Not restaurant quality soup
  • Crab salad that will make you crabby
