PROFILE: Downtown Lunch’er “Maria”

As is customary here on Midtown Lunch: Downtown, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, we have Maria who’s a real estate agent and resident of Battery Park City. She’ll point you in the direction of her favorite brick oven pizza and wants to know your restaurant ideas.

Name: Maria Hadjidemetriou

Occupation: Passionate real estate sales agent

Where you work: Mainly Battery Park City

Age: Fabulously 40

Favorite kinds of food: Vietnamese, and amazing brick oven pizza

Least favorite foods: Hot dogs and hamburgers

Favorite lunches downtown: Inatteso Pizzabar Casano on West. St. (at Morris) for brick oven pizza “Parma” which has prosciutto and arugula; Mangez Avec Moi on W. Broadway (btw. Murray & Warren) for tom yum soup; Souvlaki GR truck (normally at Old Slip & Front) for kolokithokeftedes (Greek meatballs) and the pork souvlaki in pita with tzatziki.

The “go-to” lunch place you and your co-workers eat at too often: Inatteso

Places downtown you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch: Downtown? GRK on Fulton St. (btw. Nassau & William). I’m a Greek and besides my Mom’s, this place, thanks to you, is on my list.

Dream job location, purely for lunch purposes, and why: I have the best job and dream job location.  Battery Park City is to me the number one neighborhood in Manhattan; I’ve lived here for 12 years and counting.

Anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch: Downtown readers? If you had a choice to open a restaurant downtown what would it be and what would you name it?

This is a tough question! Would it be wrong of a white girl from the Midwest to say she’d open a dumpling place in Chinatown? What kind of restaurant would you all open? And as always, if you would like to be next week’s Profiled Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate), email us at downtown@midtownlunch.com.
