New Food Truck Lot Pops Up At Hudson Square

I probably wasn’t the only one surprised by the Twitter announcement on Tuesday of another food truck lot spawning downtown. The lot’s called the Lent Space Food Truck Court at Hudson Square, located at 70 Varick (at Grand) next to Duarte Park, and it’s another one involving the NYC Food Truck Association’s members, like the collection at the World Financial Center five days a week.

According to the association’s site, there will be four to six trucks at the lot on Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A difference with this one is there will also be cultural events each day put on by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.

Hopefully this will help with some of the food truck crowding that’s caused buildings and brick & mortar businesses in the area of Hudson & King to complain to police in the past. With more and more trucks launching and less and less places for them to legally park, it’s nice to see more of these lots popping up so we can all head to a central spot for lunch instead of walking to where our favorite one is parked, only to find they’ve been asked to move. At the same time, those of us who don’t work near these concentrations of food trucks are in danger of having less visits nearby from their favorites as they gravitate to the easier parking situations.

I’m told they’re building a separate page on the NYC Food Truck Association site with information, but in the meantime you can check out our daily Twitter Tracker post or the lot’s Twitter for details on which trucks and events are there.
