Samosa Deb: Homemade Indian Food From a Corner Store

I had always noticed this sign for Indian food on the Dasani Mart corner store, but assumed it just meant frozen items and basically ignored it. When I saw Deb, who owns the store with her husband PJ, with a small table of fresh Indian food right outside the store I realized how wrong I had been.  Deb makes an array of fresh Indian food, from chicken tikka, to samosas, and even chaat. Previously, prepared food was available cold for customers to heat up at home. The hot food stand outside is a fabulous new addition.

I was gonna go with a samosa, but instead picked up a clever creation made by Deb, stuffed puri.

Asking for the Chinese Menu from China King, and Don’t let Nicholas Cage Hit You On the Way Out

China King is one of the many Chinese restaurants in China town that have separate menus, the American friendly menu and the more authentic menu (here, FuZhou style). Be clear that you want both menus.

Inside, the finishings are pretty sparse. Our waitress was both over and under attentive. Our waters were not refilled yet she  kept hovering over us while we told her we needed more time to order. It is all about the food though, we had some things that pleased, others that did not.

Stogie Joe’s Staples

A recently did a little delivery from South Philly’s Stogie Joe’s. It was a while ago, but I remembered enjoy a sample meatball at the Swedish Museum meatball competition.  I had also heard their pizza was something special. So I got a little piggish and ordered both, all for myself.
