Testing All the Hot Pockets at Kermit’s Bake Shoppe

I have been counting down the days until Kermit’s Bake Shoppe opened. Part pizza shop, part bakery, Kermit’s brings fresh, doughy items to a pretty barren block. The pink, floral murals alone brighten up Washington Ave. It was nice to see a stream of people from all walks of life arriving via car, bike, or foot  to check out this new spot.

After checking out the available goods for the day behind the glass, order at the counter. Its a strictly take out, delivery, or eat standing up  sort of place.  Plus it is HOT in there, so don’t bring a bottle of wine and plan to stay for a while.

For pictures of the interior, check out Zagat’s recent post.

I tried ALL the “hot pockets” plus a few desserts…

PROFILE: Philly Luncher “Kory”

Though we have been lacking volunteers lately, on certain Tuesdays we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Kory, a PR maven with a sweet tooth.

Name:  Kory

Age: 40

Occupation: public relations

Where in Philly do you Work?: Aversa
PR located on East Passyunk Avenue (and 12th)

Favorite Kind of Food: Desserts and comfort food. Usually always dessert before main course, too! :)

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: I love Philadelphia’s neighborhoods and have favorites in each of them. In Old City, I love Nick’s Roast Beef (16 S 2nd St) for a classic roast beef and horseradish sandwich, in Center City I can’t stay away from Schlesinger’s and their pickle bar (1521 Locust St), in Rittenhouse I love hitting Devil’s Alley (1907 Chestnut St) for my favorite Turkey Cubana, in Northern Liberties I am partial to PYT (1050 N Hancock St) for late lunches on weekends, and in South Philly I love Fuel (1917 E Passyunk Ave) for a healthy treat.

Eating Mr. Potato Head and His Entire Family at Coventry Deli

The Coventry Deli is located in a Center City office building. The menu is extensive and actually pretty fun. Its more than just a deli meat sandwich, though those are available too. Breakfast, salads, a pasta station, tons of sandwiches, snacks, and dessert are all available. Hot daily specials are also available. Zero in on what you are in the mood for, or be completely overwhelmed.

They were out of roast pork, so I was unable to order my first choice– the Cuban, which sounded amazing  with cheddar, prosciutto, and pickles alongside that pork. My only remedy was to order something even more excessive. The friendly lady preparing my sandwich behind the counter apologized upon seeing my super disappointed face, but fully endorsed my alternate choice.

Philly’s Center City Beer Wonderland also Makes a Spicy Meatball

The Corner Foodery on 17th and Sansom is a genius combo of things that Philly loves,  beer and sandwiches. The beer store/ food combo comes by a collaboration of beloved neighborhood take out beer spot, The Foodery and the chef of  The Corner.

Hot sandwiches and cold cut hoagies are available with a few anti pasti options. You may take your food and beer to go, or you can eat at the tables provided.
