A long time ago Mac and Cheese mentioned a place on Washington Ave that made their own tofu. With all the soy varieties, Viet Tofu is like a a tofu candy store. I finally sought it out and it will now be a regular stop whenever I am in the area.

Menu at Rice & Mix is Up, KFC coming soon: The menu at Rice and Mix, a new Korean restaurant from the Giwa people on 1207 walnut, is up and they are looking for staff. Maybe an opening is around the corner? Like much of the menu, once you get your bibimbop in a stone pot it goes over the ML $10 limit, and what good is it not in a stone pot. But is that Korean fried chicken coming soon, I see?

The last lunch date of my Israel travel friends at Mamma’s was very successful. We wanted a new place to try when we all got together again. After doing some online research, I found out that the speciality food store Bitar’s also serves Middle Eastern food. A long walk to Federal street worked up our appetite.

Temple’s Plaza Pizza Has a Hidden Treasure

Around Temple University, lunch is best spent at a food truck. Beyond that, the campus is stuck with sad Chinese food places and bad pizza. Rachel’s Nosherie and Koja Grille are the main exceptions to that.

Plaza Pizza is one of those not so great pizza joints. But, among the regular sandwiches, cheesesteaks, and salads, one of their menu items is actually a hidden treasure.

Hot Tamales From Los Amigos Meat Market

Strolling through the Italian Market I noticed a sign for tamales on the door of a bodega. Yes, please.

Los Amigos Meat Market sells things like Jarritos, tomatillos, dried chiles, cotija cheese, homemade tortilla chips (ooo!), and of course meats. But I was just there to get my tamales and get out, so that I might eat them on a stoop in the sunshine.
