Updated: North Philly/Temple Truck News

After being missing for several months the Irie Food Truck is back. They needed some time to get the truck inspection level ready. For now, just breakfast and sandwiches will be served. The Jamaican menu, including the Jamaican patties and stew chicken, is back next week.

Meal Ticket has just reported that a taco truck opened on 12th and Norris. Chris’s Taco Truck is now in its 2nd week. Tacos are $6 for 3. Check out the Facebook page or Twitter for updates.

Update: And more tacos! It looks like Coup de Taco is testing out Temple Campus on Tuesdays. This would be their 3rd location, in addition to University City and LOVE Park. Double check their location on Twitter.

Coup De Taco in Center City: Look out Center City, according to twitter the Coup de Taco truck is moving from its University City spot to bring their delicious tacos to Love Park (16th and JFK) this Friday from 11-2. This is a great opportunity to try them out if you don't ever go to University City.

Preview: Korean Tacos at Giwa

I just got to sample the pork version of Giwa’s new Korean style tacos that they will start offering this week. Giwa’s management is still unsure about when they will offer it, but when I asked if they would include it during lunch time if people request it, they assured me that was a likely possibility. And they should- it’s a great snack at any time of day.

Brave Enough for Eyeball Tacos at Los Taquitos de Puebla? Well, I am not

I am always up for more tacos. I spotted Los Taquitos de Puebla while in the Italian Market, noting “cabeza de res” on the sign. Beef head tacos? You can’t get a more sure sign that a place is legit. Unfortunately, eyeball, lips, and tripe tacos were not in the cards for me on this trip. I actually can’t think of anything I would want to eat less than eyeballs (blame it on my hobby of dissecting them in grade school). But I did enjoy the more standard cow and pig part tacos.

On the Quest for Mexican Food: El Jarocho plus… ML Philly’s Mexican Restaurant Ranking

With Jimmy’s question yesterday about good Mexican in Philly, I turned to El Jarocho, suggested by Luncher MWinston. El Jarocho is a small Mexican restaurant on the corner of 13th and Elsworth. The menu has breakfast items, burritos, sandwiches, and tacos, plus bigger entrees that cost over $10. How does it compare to the rest of what Philly has to offer?

Mexico on the Square Shows Us How to Make Their Super Sopes

Mexico on the Square opened 2 months ago from the same crew who ran the now closed Savoy flower shop/taqueria (which I first heard about from Luncher Matt). While they now serve sandwiches, cheesesteaks, burgers and the like- I somehow managed to look away and focus on the Mexican fare. I was psyched when I found out the sopes (thick Mexican tortillas piled with toppings) are made to order.

Hitting the Streets for Fish Tacos and Cupcakes: Honest Tom’s and Buttercream

Today we are getting a report on two funky food  trucks on the Philly streets from Profiled Luncher Matt.

For the past year, I’d heard lots about Honest Tom’s Taco Truck, but never found myself near Drexel around lunch time.  A couple of months ago, they started parking in Center City on Fridays with Fish Tacos (they’ve since added Chicken and Sweet Potato tacos on Wednesdays) at their 18th and Vine location.

The menu at Honest Tom’s is small – one or two types of tacos per day (although they say they will soon add breakfast tacos), plus Stumptown iced coffee and lemonade.  Tacos go 2 for $5, with drinks at $1.50.
