Taste of Philly 2011 Reminds Me of Some Places I Need To Lunch At

Yesterday was the 5th annual Taste of Philly event. While I felt the pour sizes were much less than previous years, it was still a good time. I liked that restaurants from all over the city were featured. I was reminded of some places that I really need to get over and try. Here is a run down of what I ate, including pictures from the restaurants that are due for a visit immediately.

Taste of Philly This Wednesday, We have a Winner!

Thanks for answering the question in our ticket give away contest for the Taste of Philly event at the Crystal Tea Room this Wednesday evening.  I am impressed at how gross you can all be. A winner has been picked at random and has already been notified. So if you didn’t get an email from me, buy your ticket here. It is a seriously good time, and the ticket price is really reasonable (think of how much dinner and a 3 hours of drinking costs), you should not miss out! And if you see me, say hi and let me know if there is any food in my teeth.

Taste of Philadelphia Ticket Give Away!

Next Wednesday, November 2nd from 6-9 in the Crystal Tea Room is the 5th Annual Taste of Philly event, sponsored by Philadelphia Weekly. I have attended the past 2 years and both times it was a great night. I guarantee that if you choose to, you will leave drunk and quite full. Check out the  recap of last year’s to find out what you can expect. Tickets are $35 (or $30 if you use the code “taste” at check out) but some hungry reader will win a pair! Yay!

All you have to do is post a comment about how much food you think you can put away at Taste of Philly (winner will still be chosen at random). If you also mention in your comment that you “like” Midtown Lunch Philly on Facebook or follow us on Twitter, your chances are doubled.

Winner will be notified by email by Monday at 5pm.

Does Beer Go with Donuts?: I am going to find out... tonight at Devil's Den (1148 S. 11th Street) get 3 beers and 3 Krispy Kreme donuts to match for $10 with $4 benefiting PAWS. The pairings are:

  • Original Glazed Doughnut with PBC’s Joe Porter
  • Cinnamon Bun Doughnut with Yards’ Thomas Jefferson Ale
  • Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnut with Weyerbacher’s Verboten, a Belgian style pale ale.

Meatball Match Up Results From This Weekend

On Sunday I got to judge the 8 amateur contestants who competed for the best meatball title at the American Swedish Historical Museum. We got to try so many fun variations of meatballs, but it was a unanimous decision that 83 year old Sicilian grandmother Jennifer had the perfect meatballs. Congrats Jennifer!

And the People’s choice winner, was Pasitificio, an Italian restaurant in South Philly. I didn’t get to try their meatballs, so I might have to trek down there to check them out.
