April Means Philly Turns French

There are a lot of French things going on this month, have you been taking advantage of them?

Starting tomorrow, in honor of the Philly International Festival for the Arts, restaurants will be serving special menus created by duos of local and French chefs. [Uwishunu]

There will be a street fair on Broad St on April 30th with food vendors. I hope the sky is clear that day.

A pop up bistro is open in the Kimmel Center for Dinner and Sunday Brunch, also for PIFA.

What interests me more though is the French crepe cart in the Kimmel Center, I should probably check that out? Its open from 11-3 and  5-8.

Not to be left out, McGillin’s is putting on its beret with menu items like French Onion Soup, French Muffuletta, Beef Bourguignon, Moules Frites and Pizza Provencal, and of course  a French Martini to go with it all.

Have you enjoyed any of the PIFA events yet?

What are you doing on Saturday? Come Watch Me Judge The Oyster House’s 2nd Annual Oyster Shucking Competition

This Saturday at 2pm, professional and amateur shuckers will be competing for cash prizes at the Oyster House (1516 Sansom St). The entrance fee is $5 which gets you access to the shucked oysters. Each contestant will be judged on speed and accuracy by Art from Foobooz, Drew from Meal Ticket, and yours truly. Don’t forget to say hi!

These are oysters collected and shucked by my Dad. I’d give him a good score.

Snow Specials:

  • Oyster House just announced on that lobster rolls are half off today, that means you can get one for $13 for lunch!
  • Percy St is offering a free beer with your RW meal.
  • At Phila Chutney Co, buy 2 Dosas, get 1 Free. Just mention Twitter.
  • Freshii is doing 2 for 1 bowls today as well.

N.Y. Deli Coming to 11th St: Some new signage has appeared on 11th st between Walnut and Sansom right next to NYPD Pizza. If NY Deli is to delis as what NYPD pizza is to pizza, then this is actually a deli worth being excited about.

Some Mid Week Lunch Updates:

  • As we mentioned, today is the grand opening of Freshii
  • Le Pain Quotidien has opened today as well, if $15 salads are your thing... though chicken curry salad tartine w a side of harissa cranberry chutney for $10.50 doesn't sound half bad [Grub Street]
  • Restaurant Week is in full force... have you been?
  • And this Friday, Oyster House (1516 Sansom) will be doing $5 to go orders of clam chowder to celebrate national New England Chowder Day from 11:30 to 2.

Philly Restaurant Week Lunch Recommendations

Philly Restaurant Week is back again (January 16-21 & 23-28) with $20 3 and 4 course lunches. With so many participating restaurants it is hard to know where to get the most bang for your buck. I went through the menus of the restaurants offering lunch during Restaurant Week and picked out the ones that sounded the best and what I would order at each.
