Is a Bareburger a Good Thing?

5 Guys did a stellar job providing burgers on the cheap for the Market East area. When it closed, another burger spot, the semi chain Bareburger,  stepped in to ensure burger cravings would still be taken care of. Unlike 5 Guys, burgers are all over $10 (except the bean burger but that doesn’t count). This made me skeptical. In exchange for your money, Bareburger provides free-range, organic meat of various animals.

I didn’t want to risk having a dry burger, so I picked bison meat, specifically the Southern Caviar which also contains bacon, pimento cheese, stout onions, and a horseradish remoulade.  I didn’t pick up on the onions or remoulade- the bacon and pimento cheese stood out as the heavyweight topping champions.  I have to admit, the bison burger was thick and cooked to a nice pink, medium. I could actually envision my bison roaming around happily in his humane pasture.  It wasn’t very seasoned, but the salt from the bacon and tang of the cheese balanced it out. I also liked the hearty, seeded brioche bun. A side of spicy pickles instead of fries ensured that I could walk out without feeling gross in the stomach area. I ended up being way less upset that I spent $13 on a chain burger than I thought, in fact, I would recommend spending the money on a Bareburger burger.

    Bless you.

My concern with Bareburger is one of your points as well – the meat isn’t seasoned, so one has to order one with many things on top in order to taste anything. I’m not a fan of that, especially for the cash outlay. I like the taste of a burger.

  • at least they are consistent!

  • Used to live directly upstairs from the OG Bareburger in Astoria and had the exact same problem with lack of salt/seasoning. They took the “bare” a little too literally. Combine that with burger priced comparably with my left nut and I almost never ate there.

  • Just remember that an anagram of “bareburger” is

    Rear Be Grub

Not saying that everything there tastes like ass but … well, yes I am

  • I don’t know what kind of ass you are eating, but… share?

Absolutely delicious! I took a picture but can’t seem to post it here. Everyone raved! My wife asked me to add corn next time when you order.
