Franco’s on Tulip in Kensington (not Fishtown as their website claims, but whatever) probably has a very good calzone. Their strombolis are great, and their pizza is the closest it gets around here to the pies of my North Jersey youth. I almost ordered a calzone from them last week, but ended up defaulting to yet another stromboli instead. I’ll definitely check out their calzone soon, though. Their garlic knots are amongst the best in the universe.

The new-ish Momento’s at Norris & Memphis down in Fishtown also had a surprisingly decent, mom & pop Belleville corner shop-style, $2 slice the first time I tried it last weekend, though it’s far from something to go out of the way for. And Pizza Brain, just a few blocks up at Frankford & Dauphin, is considerably better. But still, good to have these guys around.

Speaking of pizza around here, I still have to get to the long-since-reopened Father & Sons on Frankford at Cumberland, and head back to that place under the York-Dauphin El (the old Four Sons which was then known as Front Street Pizza when I used to go there regularly a couple of years ago, but haven’t been back in a while) if it’s still open.

Johnny’s Hots hot sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, on a long Liscio’s roll, should have been on that sausage list! It’s a workday breakfast staple, and not only because it’s the only place around here open when I leave for work at 5:15 AM on weekdays…

Though speaking of that sausage list, the Beck’s Train Wreck Po’ Boy is indeed one of the two best sandwiches at RTM. Right along with DiNic’s’ Italian pulled pork.

The Bavarian from Wursthaus Schmitz looks like another contender, though. I had their liverwurst sandwich the only time I ate there, and it was great.

I think I’m gonna finally try Rocco’s, at the Home Depot over on Castor, tomorrow.
